10 Top 10 Car Lists From Around The Internet

There's something magical about a Top 10.  It let's us chose a number of favourites (that number being 10) rather than settle on just one.  Car news outlets seem to just love a good Top 10 list, especially at the end of the year!  That's why this post is dedicated to Top Ten lists.  In fact, this could be Sean's Top 10 Top 10 Lists on The Auto Industry in 2013!

Hey everyone!  Just want to thank everyone for checking out my last post.  It was my first to get over thirty readers... and then it was the first to get over forty!  I’m really happy to see that more and more people are checking out the blog.  Hopefully we can get more conversations going too!  So in that spirit, if you have any comments on what’s been posted, feel free to share them in the comment section at the bottom of each post. 

So let’s jump onto the latest and the greatest (or, rather, old and not so great).  A couple days ago I saw an increasingly rare sight – the Cadillac Catera!  I am inexplicably fond of these cars.  I would probably never buy one knowing what I know now, but about half a decade ago or so I coveted them with an unhealthy zeal.

Ok, so I’ve had a bit of a busy past week, so I haven’t been able to keep up with the blog as much as I would have liked.  What’s worse is there have been so many cool things happening in the car world.  So this post will be a bit of a chance to catch up with some of the car news we’ve missed over the last week.  As always, click on the links!

The Official 2015 Mustang Debut = Early Christmas for me!

It's finally here!  I was so excited this morning that I leaped from my bed and rushed to the computer to see the official pics and info released from Ford.  Well, in all truth I'm not much of a morning person.  But as soon as I got my bearings and ate breakfast (and my wife left for work) I got the computer out.

All Hyped Up for the NEW 2015 MUSTANG!!!!

If you’re like me and you like Mustangs, then you’re probably gearing up for the big reveal of the all new 2015 Ford Mustang on December 5th.  This new generation of the original pony car is setting to shake things up with a turbo option and, a first for the ‘stang, an independent rear suspension. 

Spotted! The rare and elusive Subaru SVX!

Rare bird sighting alert!  I saw my first Subaru SVX in the wild a couple of days ago.  I noticed it as I was driving back to work from some lunch break Christmas shopping.  I parked my car and ran back to my office to let my boss know I may be late for our impending meeting.  When she asked why, all I said was that I had to take a picture of a car.  She laughed a little and nodded her reluctant approval.  With that I was out the door.

When I grew up I was a picky child when it came to trying new things at the dinner table.  Every so often though, I would try something and get a taste for it.  I’m happy to report I have once more indulged in visiting a car auction (again with a $100 spend limit set by spousal imposition).  I went with, Dan, the same car buddy I went with last time.  Only now he was seriously looking to bid on a car.

Let’s talk about wagons – or estates, for my British readers (according to Google analytics there’s a few of you).  I’ve often brought them up in conversation with some of my car buddies and some people love them, some people do not.  Noting their polarizing affect on the world of automotive enthusiasts, I will draw a line in the sand and firmly plant my feet on the side that brings the love.

The LA Auto is running wild until December 1^st.  I wish I could be there, but alas, I live thousands of miles away in the frozen wastelands of the fabled Canadas.  It’s a dream of mine to go, but for now I’m just going to have to live vicariously through the journalists and bloggers that post content online.

Friends can be the most dangerous people you know.  Without them, you probably would not have participated in nearly as many high-risk, impulse activities.  Of course without friends cajoling us into making potentially life (and body) altering decisions, life would be much more boring.  However, that boredom would be offset with high levels of steady-as-she-goes and easy-does-it.  Wait, offset was the wrong word.  Compounded!  That's what I was looking for...

So what's my point?  Well, I have recently been bated into doing something I would otherwise never have thought to do - go to a car auction.

I like the idea of a flagship sedan.  One car that represents everything a brand is supposed to stand for.  A showcase for luxury, performance, comfort, technology and style or whatever else a brand wants to put out there to proclaim its superiority and dominance - with varying levels of success.

Some flagships are obvious pinnacles of automotive excellence and immediately come to mind - the BMW 7-Series, Mercedes S-Class and Lexus LS are just a few that come to mind.   Others are not.

Tesla can light tires AND start fires?

This is old news by now, but perhaps some of you may not have heard about the latest speed-bump for Tesla.  I am of course referring to the recent car fires that have been attributed to a potential design flaw in the Model S. 

Sometimes all you need is a little boost...

We can mostly all agree that more power coming from your engine is a good thing.  That extra go-faster feeling pressing you into the back of your seat as the speedometer goes up and the gas gauge goes down is one of the universal joys of driving a true performance machine. 

Alternative fuels and some fun for the movie fans out there!

First of all I have to apologize for the lack of posts this week.  I smashed my finger nail into a nice shade of black while I was at the gym on Tuesday.  Since I have to type a lot at my day job I’ve been taking it easy at home.  But I can bend it for the most part now, so time to man up and do another blog entry. 

Today’s topic revolves primarily around alternative fuel vehicles, specifically electric and hydrogen powered cars.  I know, hydrogen cars are technically powered by electricity too (they just generate it on site).

Grandmothers seem to drive a broad assortment of different cars.  I’ve seen little old ladies heads poking up behind the wheels of everything from giant 1980’s era Lincoln Town Cars to brand new Hyundai Elantras.

Pick-up trucks can be handy things to have.  Besides being a mandatory tool to have around a job site, non-tradesmen like me find them quite useful for towing a trailer, taking a load of brush to the depot or hauling home the fruits of an afternoon at IKEA.  If your truck has four doors you can even take the family down to Disney World.  However, all this utility has traditionally come at a price... at the pumps.

Dodge has landed the pitchman of the year to profess to the masses the fine features of its 2014 Durango -- none other than the fictional living legend, Ron Burgundy!

Well, as if I needed another reason to be intrigued by the Saab brand, it turns out that the Swedish automaker also manufactured a badge engineered Cadillac alongside the 9-3.  This car of course was the BLS!

My First Car(s) and Car Firsts! (Part One)

Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canucks!  Hope there was lots of turkey and good brew wherever you were this past weekend!

Today I want to talk about cars that I had historic firsts in.  For those of you who may be more on the conservative side, you can read easy.  The firsts I'm going to be talking about are all PG rated.

Mostly about the Benz CLS-Class

Reading around on the net today I came across a review of an old favorite, the Mercedes CLS.  First produced in the mid-2000's, this sleek merc ushered in the era of the four-door coupe.  Now we have the VW CC, Audi A7, BMW 6-Series Grand Sport, and probably a couple others I'm forgetting.  Point is, it was a trendsetter.  Here's the review I read today of the 2014 CLS550 by Robert Farago on The Truth About Cars.

I think this car captivates me so much because it's gorgeous, fast enough, has AWD (for our mighty Canadian winters) and, well, it's a Benz, brah!

Toyotas and GMs...

So Toyota has done a great job on it's new Corolla... it's a good looking car, can get better fuel economy than a Cruze diesel and it even has rear disc brakes on the S trim now!  So all new means all better?
